What this extension does

Video Downloader is a Chrome extension that detects video streams (HLS, DASH, MP4, WebM) on web pages you visit and allows you to download them directly to your device with one click.

Data collection

We collect no data whatsoever. Specifically:

No personal information is collected
No browsing history is recorded or transmitted
No usage analytics or telemetry are sent anywhere
No cookies are set or read
No data is sent to any external server

Local storage

The extension temporarily stores detected video stream URLs in chrome.storage.local — this is local storage on your own device, never transmitted anywhere. This data is automatically cleared when you close the tab or navigate to a new page.

Network requests

The only network requests made by this extension are the video segment downloads you explicitly trigger by clicking the Download button. These requests go directly from your browser to the video host — no proxy, no intermediary server.

Third parties

This extension does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or data brokers. No data is ever sold or transferred.

Permissions

The extension requests the following Chrome permissions, all strictly necessary for its function:

tabs — to associate detected streams with the correct tab
storage — to temporarily store detected stream URLs locally on your device
downloads — to save the video file to your device
webRequest — to detect video streams by monitoring network requests
scripting — to detect streams loaded via fetch() or XHR on the page
activeTab — to access the current tab's stream data when you open the popup
offscreen — to assemble HLS segments into a downloadable file

Children's privacy

This extension does not target children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone under the age of 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy is ever updated, the date at the top of this page will reflect the change. Given that no data is collected, meaningful changes are unlikely.
